EXPORTED YOUTH WORKER RETURNS TO
CANADA

Ben and Monica Osei, with their children, Andrew and
Alice, are prayed for by representatives of the churches
that support Osei's youth work.
After being deported from Canada early in 2004, youth
worker Ben Osei returned to Toronto in November.
Osei, a Ghanaian native who had worked for Toronto's
Friendship Community Christian Reformed Church and several
neighbouring churches, captured national media attention
when Canadian supporters rallied to stop his deportation
(see Banner, March 2004).
Local and national media were on hand again when Osei
landed in Canada with his wife, Monica, and their two
children. Now granted permanent resident status in Canada,
Osei has gone back to working with youths in one of
Toronto's most densely populated areas. "Our faith
has been on display publicly. A lot of good has come out
of this," said Rev. Fred Witteveen, pastor of
Friendship Community CRC, of the struggle to bring Osei
back to Canada.
