Membership: the CMC is made up of a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Past-Chair, and representatives from each of the Committees of Classis. The Stated Clerk and Ministry Coordinator have ex-officio role on the Committee
Mandate: The CMC plans and coordinates the meetings and ministries of Classis . It provides regular reports and recommendations to Classis on all aspects of its work.
a. Nurture vision and planning within Classis
(1) Keeping the mission statement, values and goals of Classis in mind the CMC stimulates and guides our joint ministries
(2) The CMC coordinates and plans future ministry that the Churches of Classis can do together.
(3) Stimulates desire in the local Churches in Classis to discover new outreach ministry opportunities.
b. Provides accountability, guidance and support for existing ministries of Classis
(1) Provides meaningful supervision, information sharing and regular evaluation of the work of our standing Committees
(2) Recommends budgets for our standing Committees
(3) Receives reports of our standing Committees and sends appropriate reports to the general meeting of Classis.
(4) Provides supervision, support and encouragement to the work of Classis employees and volunteers:
(a) Stated Clerk
(b) Ministry Coordinator
(c) Treasurer
c. Provides governance for Classis
(1) Sets agenda for Classis Meetings
(2) Oversees the implementation of decisions made by Classis
(3) The CEC of the CMC will take care of the details of the workings of Classis:
(a) The membership of the Executive is: Chair, Vice-Chairperson, Past-Chairperson, (normally these positions should be filled by two pastors and one lay person), Stated Clerk (ex-officio) and Ministry Coordinator (ex-officio).
(b) Works with the Stated Clerk to prepare a draft agenda for Classis Meetings for the approval of the CMC
(c) Set agenda for the CMC meetings
(d) Oversee implementation of decisions made by Classis that cannot wait until the next meeting of the CMC (the CEC has the option of calling an extra CMC meeting if necessary to deal with an issue).
(e) Communicates CMC reports and decisions to Classis.
(f) Initiate the evaluation of the work of the Ministry Coordinator in the spring of each year and the Stated Clerk toward the end of each term.
(g Oversee the Church visitation process.
(h) Other:
i. Appoint counselors to vacant Churches.
ii. Approve and process the credentials of ministers entering or leaving the Classis when these are routine.
iii. Appoint Committees of adVice that serve upcoming meetings of Classis
iv. Prepare the schedule of examination of candidates for ordination and candidates for licensure when needed.
v. Order annual financial audits and any interim audits as may be necessary and engaging the auditor(s) for this purpose each year.
vi. Schedule pulpit supplies for:
(i) vacant Churches when requested. This may be scheduled for once a month but is not available for the months of June, July and August.
(ii) the Churches whose pastors serve as delegates to Synod. These Churches shall receive pulpit supply for one Sunday immediately following Synod.
(iii) three Sundays per year at the Church of which the Stated Clerk is member if the Stated Clerk is the sole pastor of that Church.
