Committee Chair (and Vice-Chair, in Chair’s absence)

 

Authority/Responsibility:

·         As a member of the committee, the chair acts in a position of trust for the CRC church community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization

·         The chair is responsible and accountable to the CRC Classis Toronto through the Classis Interim Committee.

 

Qualifications:

·         The chair must have completed two years of committee membership and have an understanding of board procedures.  The vice-chair must have completed one year of committee membership and have an understanding of board procedures.

 

Term:

·         The chair/vice-chair serves for a three year term with the possibility of another term.

 

Requirements:

·         commit to the work of the committee

·         provide knowledge and skills in one or more areas of governance: finance, programs, and/or personnel

·         attend regularly scheduled meetings

·         prepare the meeting agenda

·         help establish long and short term goals, objectives, and priorities

·         chair the meetings

·         report to the Classis on status of planned events

·         enhance relationships with other church/community groups

·         enhance relationships with other church/community groups

 

Major Duties:

·         establish long and short term goals, objectives, and priorities in meeting the needs of the church community

·         report to and address the Classis meeting on the status of program initiatives

·         provide leadership and direction to the committee

·         arrange for the vice-chair to chair meetings in the absence of the chair

·         prepare the meeting agenda

·         provide guidance and leadership

·         ensure committee members receive agenda and minutes in a timely manner

·         work closely with the Race Relations Coordinator and the Ministry Coordinator

 

Review/Approval Date

·         Every three years  review the Chair’s job description and recommend changes to the proper authorities.

  

Committee Secretary

 

Authority/Responsibility:

·         As a member of the committee, the secretary acts in a position of trust for the CRC church community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization.

·         The secretary is responsible and accountable to the CRC Classis Toronto through the Classis Interim Committee.

 

Qualifications:

·         The secretary must have good communication and writing skills.

 

Term:

·         The secretary serves for a three year term with the possibility of another term.

 

Requirements:

·         commitment to the work of the committee and the cause

·         attend regularly scheduled meetings

·         help establish long and short term goals, objectives, and priorities

·         be a spokesperson for the committee

·         enhance relationships with other church/community groups

·         ensure committee members receive agenda and minutes in a timely manner

·         commitment to the work of the committee

 

 

Major Duties:

·         prepare and maintain minutes and records for all committee meetings

·         review/monitor and verify the accuracy of the meetings minutes

·         circulate the committee meeting reminders and agendas to all committee members

·         communicate with Classis Toronto nominating committee re: new committee members; submit names to the committee by Oct. 1 of each year

·         maintain a “master binder” with all pertinent documents

·         establish and maintain a list of members, terms of office, etc.

·         establish and maintain a list of resources

·         develop “to-do checklists” for annual events

 

Review/Approval Date:

·         Every three years review the secretary’s job description, and recommend changes  to the proper authorities

 

 

Committee Treasurer

 

Authority/Responsibility

·         As a member of the committee, the treasurer acts in a position of trust for the CRC church community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization

·         The treasurer is responsible and accountable to the CRC Classis Toronto through the Classis Interim Committee.

 

Qualifications/Skills

·         The treasurer must have completed at least one year of committee work.

·         The treasurer must have the ability to read/understand/interpret financial statements.

 

Term

·         The Treasurer is appointed for a three year term with the possibility of an additional term.

 

Requirements

·         commitment to the work of the committee and the cause

·         knowledge and skills in one or more areas of governance and finance

·         attend regularly scheduled meetings

·         help establish long and short term goals, objectives, and priorities

·         be a spokesperson for the committee

·         enhance relationships with other church/community groups

·         commitment to the work of the committee

 

Major Duties

  • help establish overall long and short term goals, objectives and priorities for the Race Relations Committee

·    work out and present the budget for the committee; receive approval from members

·    forward the committee’s detailed annual budget request to the Classis Treasurer by July 1, so that it may be included with the Finance Committee recommendations to Classis, in time for the September Classis meeting agenda.

  • keep committee members updated as to the budget status

  • send cheques to approved speakers and workshop leaders, along with a “thank you” letter

·         Every three years review the treasurer’s job description, and recommend changes  to the proper authorities.
