Membership

a. The Committee shall consist of five to eight people who believe in the importance of spreading the Good News of Christ our Saviour on Campus.

b. Members will ordinarily be people who are well aware of the CRC as well as university and faculty issues.

Mandate:

a. Support the Campus Ministry

(1) Members will seek to be spiritually and emotionally supportive to the minister and his/her family by:

(a) Providing pastoral care and encouragement

(b) Supporting him/her by prayer at meetings and individually

(c) Being interested and supportive in personal and Campus Ministry related concerns

(2) Establish and maintain good communication with Campus Ministry by:

(a) Scheduling and attending quarterly meetings with the minister to stay current about ongoing events, new ideas and/or events planned through written reports and discussion.

(b) Discussing the minister's upcoming agenda regarding workload and scheduling in accordance with the Campus Minister Position Description and the Pastoral Care Guidelines.

(c) Addressing specific problems that either the Committee or the minister has assessed.

b. Promote the Campus Ministry

(1) Champion the ministry in Classis and help spread its name

(2) Enable fundraising when necessary

(3) Help generate support from others

c. Evaluate the ministry and minister and keep the minister accountable - spiritually, professionally and financially by:

(1) Supervising and administering the employment of the minister as mutually agreed upon in his/her contract as well as the guidelines relevant for support from Home Missions.

(2) Evaluating the quality of the minister's work through the various programs and contacts the minister makes on campus.

(3) Keeping accurate records of the number of students counselled, number of office hours observed, number of articles written in student papers, number of Bible sessions led and attended, number of professors personally engaged, number of ecumenical chaplaincy events attended, number of sermons preached, etc. and be able to report these numbers to Classis when appropriate.

(4) Regularly evaluating the Campus Minister's work (annually or bi-annually) according to the Evaluation Framework.  The Committee should report to Classis that the evaluation was completed and any other relevant information regarding the evaluation.  If the minister is on contract, the Committee should provide a thorough review of the campus minister nearing the end of the contract (usually three years) and recommend to Classis that the minister be reappointed or discontinued, with appropriate grounds.

(5) Should the position of Campus Minister become vacant the appropriate Campus Ministry Committee is responsible to search for new candidates for the position, conduct interviews and recommend a nominee for a thorough interview on the floor of Classis and final approval.

d. Build up the Campus Ministry

(1) Give direction to the Campus Ministry in conjunction with the minister by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the set objectives for each semester and academic year.

(2) Provide creative suggestions and feedback to improve the ministry's mission.
